Queanbeyan born and raised athlete and the first athlete that MattyB ever coached, Patty Elliott has broken through to claim victory in his home gift and take the $10000 cheque.

Running off 8.75m, the finalist from last year (9.5m), showed determination and a will to win to hold off the challenges and take the Gift from Richard Hankin and fellow training partners Brendan Matthews (3rd off 5.25m) and Stephen Sheppard (4th off 7.75m).

In other news Jaryd Cowley broke his Novice status with victory in the 120m Novice race and Brendan Matthews took out the 100m Bakcmarkers invitational. Birthday girl Tarin Nevin had a succesful day as well making the final of the Novice and 300m races.

Squad Gift Results for 2010/11

 MattyB DEPT. ready for 2010 Queanbeyan Gift

 A squad of 22 athletes will take to Queanbeyan Park on Saturday for the annual Queanbeyan Gift with the MattyB DEPT. trying to make it a hat trick of winners after Brendan Matthews won in 2008 and Luke Storta took the title in 2009. Both Brendan and Luke will be attempting to become the first person to win the gift twice while local boy Patrick Elliott will be looking to win his own gift after making the final last year.

Other squad athletes in contention for the $10000 first prize may include 2010 Stawell Gift winner Tom Burbidge and 2010 Macksville finalist Stephen Sheppard.

The squad will also be represented by 7 girls in the Women’s Gift including Commonwealth Games representatives and former winners of the gift Melissa Breen (2007) and Lauren Boden (2008). Fellow squad member Ramona Casey will be trying to go one better than her runner up in the 2009 Gift.

Overall the squad will have athletes running in the 70m (14 entered), Men’s Gift (12 entered), Women’s Gift (7 entered), Novice (5 entered), Veterans (3 entered), 300m (10 entered), 600m (1 entered) and Invitation Backmarkers.

Events kick off at 1015am with the 70m Heats with Finals running from 3pm-5.10pm.
