Oh so close for Boden!

Lauren Boden edged ever so close to the Olympic “A”  for the 400m Hurdles at the Perth Tour Meet over the weekend.

In an emphatic manner Boden won the race by almost 3 seconds to run her fastest time ever on Australian soil and only 0.11 seconds off the “A” standard with 55.61.

An optismistic Boden said “I am not upset or frustrated about being so close because I know I am in great shape and it will come. ”

Melissa Breen backed up her great runs from the week before with a victory in the 200m in 23.76 (-0.5w) and a second place behind Sally Pearson in 11.53 (0.4w).

Brendan Cole was first Australian across the line in the Men’s 400m Hurdles in a time of 50.60 with training partners Mowen Boino (51.27) and Ollie Wurm (55.37) also racing.

The squad competed in 4 different states over the weekend highlighted with Rachael Carnegie running a PB in the 400mH (66.26) at the ACT Junior state champs and Jesse Matthews finishing 3rd in the Temora Gift with Luke Storta making the final of the 300m. Brendan Matthews and Jaryd Cowley also competed at the Stonnington and Ballarat Gifts in Victoria to wrap up a busy few days.

Next stop is the Sydney Track Classic on 18th Feb where great weather is predicted and some outstanding performances anticipated.

My nephew Lleyton Hails made a video of Hunter TC

My 12 year old nephew Lleyton sent me a movie trailer “The Run” he created based on video footage he filmed with his new camera at the Hunter Track classic recently.

12th Jan AACT Results

On a relatively good night for athletics several MattyB DEPT. athletes ventured out for a run at the AACT Summer Series meet.

In the 100m Brandan Galic and Brendan Matthews went neck and neck finishing in the same time of11.01 to finish behind AIS Long Jumper Robbie Crowther (10.63) and Clay Watkins (10.95).

The 400m saw a new personal best of 48.25 from Tom Burbidge when finishing second to Clay Watkins (47.49). In the second race Jesse Matthews (50.23) just pipped Luke Storta (50.69) with birthday girl Rachael Carnegie just missing a PB with 58.86.
