Boden collects $1500 in Hobart

Lauren Boden ran another superb basically solo race in Hobart to win by almost 4 seconds in a time of 56.66. This time was a meet record, B qualifier and also placed her second in the overall meet standings. Petrina Price took out the athlete of the meet and $3000 with a jump of 1.90m in the High Jump with Lauren second collecting $1500.

Lauren is now eagerly looking forward to racing  Tamsyn Lewis at the Sydney GP where they will meet for the first time this year. Due to different racing schedules they have not raced this year but Lauren knows that Tamsyn is a great competitor and has already produced some great results over 400m and 400m Hurdles. (Added section – Tamsyn ran a great 57.46 B Qualifier on 18th February in Melbourne with no one close to her so both will appreciate having some competition.) It should be a great race and hopefully both can breakthrough into the 55 seconds and run the A qualifier for Commonwealth Games.

Brendan Cole made it a MattyB DEPT. double in the 400m Hurdles taking victory in a time of 50.89. It was a solid run and a good hit out before the big Sydney and Melbourne GP meets where he will take on Jamacian champion Danny MacFarlane.

Melissa Breen got her own double capturing the 100m and 200m against Laura Whaler. Unfortunately the wind reading did not work for the 200m but looking at other results it was definately a legal wind and probably a slight headwind making the time of 23.68 very pleasing. The 100m was unfortunately into a strong 2.2w headwind but the time of 11.71 shows that Melissa is running extremely well.

Breen bags Brisbane double

19 year  sprint sensation Melissa Breen last night showed her class in taking out the 100m and 200m double at the Brisbane GP as part of the Athletics Australia Tour.

Melissa’s first victory came in the 200m running. Running from the middle lane she quickly rounded up the field on the bend and charged home in a time of 23.74 seconds (0.1w).

By the time the 100m came around the conditions had completely changed and as she left the call room the rain started to really come down hard. Despite this Melissa put together a mature race to take victory again over Laura Whaler in a time of 11.62 (1.0w).

It was the first time she had taken a double victory at a Grand Prix meeting.

In between these 2 races training partner and 3 time national 400m Hurdles champion, Lauren Boden, lined up in the 400m.

Lauren finished a wonderful second behind in form runner Jody Henry after pipping World Championship 4 x 400m relay representative, Pirenee Steinert on the line.

Both girls will head to Hobart on Friday for the next leg of the tour. They will be joined by Brendan Cole who will contest the 400m Hurdles.

Boden run another Commonwealth Games Qualifier

MattyB DEPT. athletes Brendan Cole and Lauren Boden put on a hurdles clinic at the recent Canberra Grand Prix meet at the AIS athletics track.

Lauren Boden won by over 4 seconds in 56.48 which was a B qualifier for the Commonwealth Games. The most exciting aspect of her run was the stride pattern where Lauren ran 14 strides between the 3rd and 4th hurdles which is something very few females in the world do.

Brendan Cole stepped out on the track in the next race and also displayed his dominance with a 2 second victory in a time of 50.97. This was his first hurdle race since running in the semi finals of the World Championships in Berlin. Further improvements are expected over the next few months leading into the Commonwealth Games trials.
