Breen bags Brisbane double

19 year  sprint sensation Melissa Breen last night showed her class in taking out the 100m and 200m double at the Brisbane GP as part of the Athletics Australia Tour.

Melissa’s first victory came in the 200m running. Running from the middle lane she quickly rounded up the field on the bend and charged home in a time of 23.74 seconds (0.1w).

By the time the 100m came around the conditions had completely changed and as she left the call room the rain started to really come down hard. Despite this Melissa put together a mature race to take victory again over Laura Whaler in a time of 11.62 (1.0w).

It was the first time she had taken a double victory at a Grand Prix meeting.

In between these 2 races training partner and 3 time national 400m Hurdles champion, Lauren Boden, lined up in the 400m.

Lauren finished a wonderful second behind in form runner Jody Henry after pipping World Championship 4 x 400m relay representative, Pirenee Steinert on the line.

Both girls will head to Hobart on Friday for the next leg of the tour. They will be joined by Brendan Cole who will contest the 400m Hurdles.
