Billingham tastes victory twice in 2 days in Canada

Grant Billingham has commenced his World Junior trip with a victory in a warm up meet in Vancouver. Running in the B race Grant was too strong for the rest of the field crossing the line in a time of 48.81.

“It felt great and I think I have some more in the bank too” Grant explained.

The following day Grant ran in the Australian relay team which also took out victory in a solid time of 3.10. Running with Steve Solomon (46.8), John Rayner (47.6) and Joel Bee (48.6) Grant ran a great third leg with a split of 48.0.

Grant will now settle in and get fully adjusted to the time zone change before heading to Moncton for the World Junior Championships where he will run for Australia in the 4 x 400m relay.

Billingham and Matthews have strong hit out

Grant Billingham again showed some great form on the track today running at the High Noon Meet in Canberra. After a wonderful trial last weekend it was time to do it officially from blocks and with electric timing.

Despite a huge stumble (see the video below) in his first few steps after the gun Grant crossed the line in a time of 48.21. Brendan Matthews showed that winter training is going well with a great time of 48.99 despite being in heavy winter training. Jesse Matthews and Luke Storta were also happy to jump in for a run to assist Grant.

Grant has now confirmed is place on the plane and will spend the next 2 weeks sharpening up before the World Junior camp in Brisbane from 25th-27th June.

I have also placed the 1500m race from today’s high noon meet featuring Todd and Brett. Todd ran a superb 3.48.71 and Brett was also under the required pre departure requirement (3.51.00) with time of 3.50.25. A great pacing by Philo Saunders made the job a bit easier for the boys.
