MATTYB DEPT. start to step up the performances at the Athletics ACT Summer Series

SUMMARY

15 year old Chloe Jamieson has continued her purple patch of form running a scintillating 60.11 in the 400m Hurdles at the ACT Summer Series. After breaking the national under 16 record in the 200m Hurdles (27.54) at the NSW All Schools Championships last weekend Chloe made another huge breakthrough in the 400m Hurdles taking over 2 and half seconds off her personal best and moving to number 5 on the open ranking for the event joining her training partner Lauren Boden (ranked number 2).

In other events 18 year old Brendan Matthews took out the 400m in a time of 48.75. This is his second fastest time ever and coach Matt Beckenham still believes there is plenty more to come in the lead up to the World Junior selection trials in March next year. The squad took the trifecta with Derek Collinge (50.06) just holding off Jesse Matthews (50.07).

Lauren Boden ran her first 400m race for the season crossing the line in 54.65. Considering she is still in heavy training this was an extremely pleasing result. Training partner Tarin Nevin also ran a solid 400m running 59.82 showing she is on track to try and crack through the 60 second barrier in her pet event the 400m Hurdles later in the season.

Melissa Breen ran a solid 11.91 into a strong headwind and Patrick Elliott (11.33) also recovered from a bad start to beat training partners Stephen Sheppard (11.35) and Derek Collinge (11.38) on the line.

The squad completed the night with 2 teams running the 4 x 100m relay. The main men’s team consisted of Tom Burbidge, Brendan Cole, Patrick Elliott and Brendan Matthews finished first in 42.05 while a mixed team of Jesse Matthews, Stephen Sheppard, Lauren Boden and Chloe Jamieson finished 2nd in 44.69.

The squad will now prepare for the NSW Relays championships to be conducted in Sydney on 21-22nd November.

Local Tathra girl Chloe Jamieson dominated the hurdles events in the 15 years age group at the NSW All Schools Championships held in Sydney 6th-8th November taking gold in the 90m Hurdles and 200m Hurdles.

In the heats 200m Hurdles she ran a personal best of 27.67 (-0.5w) and set a new Australian and NSW Record in the process.

Chloe then backed this up 2 hours later running even faster to again lower the Australian record to 27.54 into a headwind of -0.9. The national record was 27.91 held by Jessica Gulli who represented Australia at the World Youth (2005) World Juniors (2006) Championships.

Chloe stated that “all is looking good for nationals”  after her victory margin of over 2 seconds in the final.

Earlier in the meet Chloe won the 90m Hurdles in time of 12.73 (0.1w) which was almost half a second faster then second (13.20). Her time was also only 0.08 from the State Record held by outstanding junior hurdler Carly Rodger.

Congratulations also goes to her father Kel who does the supervision of Chloe’s training at home.

Chloe will now set her sights towards the Australian All School championships (4th-6th December) in Hobart where she will contest the Under 16 200m Hurdles and also run up an age group in the under 17 400m Hurdles. Her coach Matt Beckenham is very excited about Chloe stepping up to the 400m Hurdles saying “she will be up an age group but Chloe has already shown me that she has some wonderful potential in the 400m Hurdles and I really think she has the potential to be one of the Australia’s top hurdlers in years to come.”  

In the lead up to Hobart Chloe will also join fellow squad members Lauren Boden (3 time national 400m Hurdles champion) and Melissa Breen (National 200m champion) when they compete at the NSW Relays Championships on the 21-22nd November.
