Queanbeyan Gift 5th December 2009

Storta makes it 2 in a row for MattyB DEPT.

Luke Storta has taken out the 10th Queanbeyan Gift with a magnificent run under pressure yesterday at Queanbeyan Park.

Running off 9.75m Storta crossed the line in 12.29 in almost perfect conditions to just hold out Matt Pilkington (8.5m) and Patrick Fakiye (4m).  Fellow squad member and Queanbeyan local Patrick Elliott also had a wonderful day finishing 5th in the final off 9.5m and also making the 70m final.

Ramona Casey continued her winning form taking out the Open 70m event. Running off 14.5m she held off everyone behind to take victory in a photo finish in a quick time of 7.44. Patrick Elliott flashed home ofr 5th in the same race.

In probably the biggest celebration of the day Stephen Sheppard broke through for his first ever victory in the Novice 120m. After collecting a total of $210 in 5 years of gift running Sheppard running of 5.75m dominated the field to run a very respectable 12.78.

Melissa (2nd off scratch) and Lauren (3rd off 1.5m) again just missed behind Charlotte (0.75m) in the Women’s Backmarkers over 100m. This was won in 11.90.

Jesse Matthews was extremely impressive in the heats of the 300m but unfortunately was pushed over in the final when about to move up into a top 3 position.
