Despite the extreme heat conditions at Blacktown over the weekend the MattyB DEPT. excelled in their performances on the track dominating the sprint relays in both the Men’s and Women’s events at the NSW Relays Championships.
In fact the squad improved on the results from last year taking home 5 Gold medals and 1 Bronze medal in 6 events.

Unfortunately a technical error in the heat of the 4 x 100m cost them a chance of the clean sweep of all sprints events male and female. Check out the video of the second change between Brendan Cole and Patrick Elliot now known as the Blacktown flyby
On top of this the squad broke 3 ACT records in the Women’s 4 x 400m and Men’s 4 x 200m and 4 x 400m relays.
“It was a very pleasing result for all involved and a great display of team work and squad unity” said a very proud coach Matt Beckenham.
The focus will now shift to the Queanbeyan Gift where athletes will be running against each other for over $30000 in prizemoney including the Men’s $14000 and Women’s $7000 Queanbeyan Gift over 120m.
